Why should SEO be important to you?

In the olden days when people used to walk around shops buying things, if a shop were not easy to find, then it would not get many customers. This would have tragic consequences for business. Skip to the 21st century and the same thing still applies on the web (ok, so it still applies to busy shoppers traipsing around busy high streets too). The vast majority of your potential customers probably do not know you even exist, so the chances of them happening to type your domain name into their browser is pretty slim.
Even if you have done loads of advertising on television, radio and in directories, if someone types in the name of your business into Google and some other company come up first, they will be the ones who benefit most from your advertising campaign and so much of that money will be wasted.

For the majority of searches, people will only look at the top three links on Google (not including sponsored links), so getting into that top three is really important.

Does Facebook look 'tacky' on your site?

The answer to that is a matter of opinion, but the benefit a business can get from social media is massive and there are ways to use it effectively and discretely to get the best of both worlds. The fundamental principle is that a recommendation from a friend is always going to be far more potent than any passing advert that we are continuously bombarded with in our day to day lives. We literally see adverts everywhere; be it branding on products we already own, or that our friends own, things we hear on the radio, see on TV or read in magazines.
